Stages

Stages are groups of players that are categorised based on skill level.

Stage 1

Beginner

This is a beginner level within our stages. All badminton players who are first joining ABA are encouraged to join stage 1 to ensure you learn the essential basic foundations. You have passed this level if you can: 

  • Has the correct forehand and backhand grip 
  • Has a basic understanding of both front court and rear court footwork
  • Can forehand serve, clear and lift to the back box within a half court game

Intermediate

These are for intermediate players who have passed the requirements for Stage 2. This stage starts developing full court techniques, on top of the training received in Stage 1. You have passed this level if you can perform the following in a full-court context: 

  • Has the correct forehand and backhand grip 
  • Has a basic understanding of both front court and rear court footwork
  • Has a basic understanding of drops, smashes and taps 
  • Can forehand serve, clear and lift to the back box within a game

Advanced

This advanced builds in all the skills from previous stages. It also introduces more varieties of play style including singles, and doubles. 

Within Stage 3, there is also a pool of stronger players. 

Elite

Stage 4 is the highest level within ABA. 

Students within this stage are encourage to start engaging in both domestic and international badminton competitions.
